Participation in the student companies is for advanced students with the goal of developing performance technique, stage personality, ensemble dance experience and enjoying the camaraderie of dancing together.

Raqs Caravan Folklore is a Sahara Dance student company specializing in Arab folkloric dances for stage. Students learn ensemble choreographies for performances at student shows, community events and in other educational environments. Dancers place a special focus on developing an authentic, expansive and joyful repertoire.

Raqs Caravan Folklore

Raqs Caravan Folklore, and the sister companies Raqs Caravan East and West, are featured at three productions annually: the Under a Desert Moon Annual Student Gala, the Sahara Dance Summer Student Showcase and the Raqs Caravan Student Showcase. Raqs Caravan companies perform regularly at numerous community and educational events throughout the year.

Raqs Caravan Folklore delights in sharing the folkloric dances of Egypt, Lebanon, the Gulf, and North Africa. Members gain and share a deeper appreciation of oriental dance by performing to the music and dance traditions that have inspired and continue to inspire modern belly dance. The repertoire includes Saiidi, Nubian, Khaleegy, Dhabke, Bamboutaya and Hagallah.
