Sahara Dance

Our Faculty

Cecelia discovered belly dance as a teenager and has found no other dance that fits her body and soul the way belly dance does. The rich music and movements of belly dance encourage a range of physical and emotional expression that help us to embrace who we are as dancers and as women, throughout our lives.

Cecelia began dancing with Sahara Dance in 2007 and has danced primarily under Rachel Kay Brookmire, Jennifer, Elysa and Colleen.

She has studied roots of Egyptian dance with dancer and dance ethnologist Sahra Saeeda and has augmented her dance studies with Aladin El Kholy, Yousry Sharif, and Karim Nagi.

Cecelia is drawn to traditional raqs sharki and folkloric dance and is a member of Raqs Caravan East and a founding member of Raqs Caravan Folklore.

She is pleased to be able to share the joy and art of belly dancing with others and strongly believes that we’re never too old to start — or continue — learning the ancient art of belly dance.
