I finally made it to my regular class and picked up my class card, and was happy to see a few students in my class that I recognize. At the beginner level, we’re all pretty much strangers, and classes are often quiet. As the semester goes on, though, and as students progress through the levels with each other, we get to know each other better and classes become more than just learning belly dance technique. They become an opportunity to hang out with new friends, to socialize, to dance away the troubles of the day, to share, to grow and to be a part of a community. I already missed out on three weeks with my class, but I’m really looking forward to getting to know my classmates.
