Beginner Blog: Umi, oh my!

hootchy-kootchy: a kind of erotic performance somewhat like the belly dance, as formerly performed at carnivals, etc.

I think the umi is the belly dance technique that is “somewhat like” the hootchy-kootchy. It seems like such an easy move, but it is one that requires quite a bit of thought and control to keep it respectable. With practice, I am assured, it will look “big and juicy” and not at all lascivious. Until then, though, I will practice it only in class and in the privacy of my apartment (curtains drawn)!
