One of the great things (in my opinion) about Sahara Dance is the curriculum. As I mentioned in my last post, I tend to do a lot of make-ups. As part of my job, I run around to all the studios and I often miss my class, so I do a make-up wherever I happen be when there is a Beginner I class that is open. Because the curriculum is the same, I know that I’m not falling behind my regular class. That’s nice. It’s also nice that there is a standard warm-up. I found it difficult to follow the first few times, but it is becoming more familiar. I don’t have it down-pat, though, as the Beginner I students at SDV learned.
I was there to train Barbara, the new studio assistant, but ended up leading the warm-up when Jennifer got stuck in traffic. I’ve done the warm-up several times before, but when I had to teach it, I forgot all but a few moves. I warmed up the class with a mix of my martial arts warm-up, some yoga stretches and what I could remember of the belly dance warm-up. My mash worked pretty well, but I’ll definitely pay more attention to the warm-up in my next class.
