We’re happy to relaunch Hip Talk, our belly dance blog! Welcome :).
We hope that Hip Talk will become a forum for the Sahara Dance community to learn more about Middle Eastern dance and about one another.
Belly dance is such a rich topic for exploration and expression. Through the dance we can travel to far off places, meet and become interesting characters, learn of love and loss, and maybe pick up a little Arabic. We’re especially fortunate to have a diverse and inspiring community within Sahara Dance to share in our journey.
Marianne, our Operations Manager and a new belly dancer, will be posting a beginner blog to share her first experiences with shimmies, hip scarves, haflas and shows. We’ll also post mini-interviews with teachers, performance company members, studio assistants and other community members. Now and again I’ll post some thoughts on dance and I’ll invite our other teachers to do the same.
To start, we’ve posted some new material, and will be dusting off some old posts from the original Hip Talk blog to repost. We’d love to hear what would be of interest to you! Please email your ideas, hopes and wishes for Hip Talk and we’ll do our best to keep everyone engaged, entertained and informed.
