Last night was the belly dance debut for me and many other beginner students. Sarah, Priscilla and I took “the stage” to represent Melissa’s Beginner I class (where was her Monday class, hmmm?). It was scary! I concentrated on the moves, but then thought maybe I looked like I was performing complicated mental calculations, so I tried to smile. And keep smiling. It might have been a terrified smile. The performance lasted only a minute, and it went by so quickly! I didn’t forget the routine, and the crowd was so supportive, with claps, cheers and zaghereets. Afterward, elation! And relief. Rikki showed up right as we finished, and was so disappointed to have missed it. And Melissa, still sick, showed up just long enough to lead her classes’ performances before heading right back home to bed. Now, that’s dedication!
I hope everyone else enjoyed the hafla. There was such a good turnout, and I was happy to see some familiar faces from other classes, like Charlotte, Lauren and Natalie, performing and gettin’ down on the dance floor!
Thanks to Bex, Kelly and Melinda, too, for helping out and bringing the “open dancing” over to my post by the door!
