The holiday party was so much fun last night. Sugar! I ate too many cookies. It is difficult to choose my favorite treat (I had to sample all at least twice, to be fair). The top contenders are Alexis’s lavender shortbread, Jen’s fudgy brownies, Colleen’s feta-quince-pistachio tartlets, and the sea salt brownies. The door prizes were donated by the craft vendors. Several let me choose the door prize, so of course I took the items I liked most. Bad decision, because then I couldn’t buy them (and I forgot to give myself a raffle ticket to put me in the running to win them). Rats! Oh, well, I hope the lucky winners enjoy their door prizes!
I did get a beautiful henna design on my hand. Luckily, I was the first customer; I went back later hoping to get another henna design on my wrist, but the line was too long and there was a waiting list. The artists did beautiful work. I managed to keep the henna on until the end of the party; it all brushed off when I was cleaning up, but by then it had soaked in for several hours and still looks really good today.
The performances last night were a great treat. I finally got to see Brianne’s tribal solo (I missed it at the Showcase). Colleen told me afterward that her solo was mostly improv - it was impressive to begin with, but knowing that she hadn’t choreographed and rehearsed it is inspiring. Omoladun’s performance was fantastic, and included several surprise performances from audience members she drew onto the dance floor. We were treated to another superb performance by Julie. Laura F. showcased a hula-belly fusion piece, giving us a hint of what we’ll be learning in her Hula-Belly Dance Fusion Performance class next semester. Ami gave us a taste of tribal fusion sword and Leila (Yvette) demonstrated a dazzling zills solo performance.
Last night was a wonderful night of dancing, eating, shopping, browsing, socializing and merry-making. I was glad to see my classmates outside of the studio. Though I was running around with the camera all night, I didn’t think to get a picture of my classmates with Melissa until the end of the night, after some people had already left. Several of us are moving on to Beginner I / Beginner II Technique together. I hope Allyson is ready for us!
