Beginner Blog: Layering

December 4, 2008 12:45 PM

I felt really rusty after a week break from belly dance class and practice. I think I might need to take a brush-up workshop in January. If I backslid so much after one week off, I’ll be back where I started after almost a month layoff! Luckily, we reviewed a lot, but the review was in preparation for more layering attempts. Umi+shoulder accents = the Humpty Dance. Seriously, I was shakin’ and twitchin’ kinda like I was smokin’. It felt, and looked, so awkward at first. When we revisited that particular layering combo at the end of class, it did feel more natural, but still looked awkward. I think I heard someone mutter “spastic zombie” under her breath…

Melissa also had us pair off and take turns following each other for eight counts, doing any belly dance move we could remember. Rikki was my partner. We faltered a bit because it is difficult to remember everything, but we pulled out some early moves, and never repeated a move. Still, I don’t think we won. But it was a fun way to review.

I can’t believe next week is the last week. This semester has gone by quickly!
