Name: Brianne
What is your role within the Sahara Dance community? Instructor, Student
Childhood ambition: Marine Biologist
First job: First job ever - lifeguard, first ‘real job’ - attorney
What’s playing on your iPod or CD player? Just about everything
Indulgence: Chocolate anything, Hello Cupcake! cupcakes, things with bubbles, lounging around outside on a nice day and BBQ
What’s your favorite belly dance moment or experience? There are so many I can’t pick just one!
Current inspirations: Journey through Egypt was really inspiring and on the opposite end of the spectrum I have a new super pop-y CD that I am having fun with
What is your dance background? I was listening to a lot of Latin music and was a fan of Shakira. One night I was watching the Latin Grammys and I saw her perform Ojos Asi, I had never seen anyone dance like that. I loved it! I thought it was so beautiful. I started looking into classes but it wasn’t until I came to DC that I found them at Sahara Dance.
How did you get interested in belly dance? I danced when I was very young, tap ballet and jazz, which included being a rosebud - pink tutu attachment for my head and all. But as I got a little older, I picked up sports and left dance classes for a long time. I dabbled here and there for fun, but nothing hooked me in until belly dance.
Finally, what do you love most about Sahara Dance (other than Hip Talk, of course!)? I love the women I have met and the community we have here!
