It happens to every dancer…. At some point, you find yourself belly dancing to music you hear on the radio, on television commercials, at a concert, or on the iPod of the person next to you on the metro. It doesn’t have to be Egyptian or Middle Eastern music. A steady beat with some percussion will do. One of our studio assistants found herself belly dancing to a song by The Eagles. What’s your song?
Spend Saturday afternoon with Chiaki honing your budding improvisation skills. Learn new ways to combine moves and make your impromptu performance polished and fluid. Then practice what you learn at the hafla on Saturday night!
Improvisation
Experiment with tips and tools for improvising to Arab music. Learn musical understanding, phrasing and techniques for overcoming improvisational stage-fright. Participants will develop greater skill and comfort in spontaneously creating pieces on the spot and in the moment. All levels welcome; however, some previous belly dance experience recommended.
