No tricks, only treats! We are very excited to bring back Latifa for an afternoon of North African folkloric dances. (An added bonus, maybe the discussion about regional costumes will give you Halloween costume ideas…)

North African Dance Sampler

Explore the folkloric dances produced by the rich multicultural heritage of North Africa. Special guest instructor Latifa will present Ouled Nail from Algeria, traditional Schikatt from Morocco, and the distinctive dance style prevalent in Tunisia. The workshop will include historical/cultural lecture and examples of appropriate costuming and jewelry, as well as new steps and fun folkloric combinations to try out. Handouts will be provided (so you don’t have to take notes!).

Bio: Latifa is a popular instructor in the Baltimore-Washington area who is known for her musicality and expression. A life-long student of Middle Eastern studies, she holds a master’s degree in Arab Studies from Georgetown University and has traveled to the Middle East several times to study dance, culture, and the Arabic language. Latifa studied with the late Ibrahim Farrah for over ten years.
