Brooklyn Baladi with Kaeshi

Kaeshi will teach a powerful Tribal Fusion choreography to “Brooklyn Baladi” by New York-based Middle Eastern band Djinn. This choreography covers many popular tribal movements including Egyptian basic, torso rotation, taksim, Arabic, choo choo arc, triplet shoulder pushes, sidewinder, satellite, 90-degree backbend, Turkish drop, and more. She will also explain how Tribal style differs from Cabaret style comparing posture, use of muscles, choice of music, intention and movement vocabulary.

Sharqi Fusion with Jillina

Add some theatrical flavor to your dance with this delicious choreography! Big and bold, this choreography mirrors the spirit of the music - a rich theatrical fusion with an Arab rhythm foundation. Jillina will emphasize traveling steps, timing, and articulate movements. The choreography is currently part of the Bellydance Evolution Theater Show.

Fusing Folkloric Stylings with Belly Dance with Elizabeth

The more you know, the more confidently you will express your unique voice. In this workshop, we will focus mainly on Egyptian folkloric and solo dance stylings. From this background, we will create short dance combinations in the modern tribal fusion style.

Derkekedoodledoo: Drum Solo with Jillina & Ozzy

Learn the art of dancing to the Derbeke (Tabla). Explore the percussive dynamics of a drum solo using intricate hip technique and a variety of shimmies. This class will breakdown rhythms, technique and explore new realms of improvisation. The choreography is currently part of the Bellydance Evolution Theater Show.

New Persian Choreography with Louchia

Learn a new twist to an old tradition. Louchia uses a new exiting popular remix of the old traditional song Goleh Goldoonen Man, 6/8. You will learn upper body arm and hands motions, fast changes and spins to a 2/4 rhythm.

Boom Shakalaka Bam Bam: Tribal Drum Solo with Sharon

Work with the sounds of traditional drums, Tribal style! Developing a sense of rhythm and musicality is key- we will work on listening skills and identifying basic rhythms, and practice translating sound into movement! Drill moves including locks, shimmies, and turns, and create a petite drum solo choreography as the grand finale!

All levels are welcome, some experience is recommended.

Bollywood Fusion Choreography with Heather

This workshop combines the undulations and shimmies of Bellydance with the exciting signature moves of Indian Bollywood. Drawing from contemporary and Folk Indian dance, along with Bellydance, this fusion workshop will add a fun, energetic choreography to your repertoire. Choreography is featured in the Bellydance Evolution show.

Fancy Footwork of the Turkish Roman with Elizabeth

This all-levels workshop will cover footwork, hipwork, and armwork, and the way these movements combine in an elusive, very expressive dance form. Turkish Roman dance is playful, passionate and fun. Enjoy expanding your dance vocabulary and explore the energizing 9/8 rhythm!

Please wear dance pants, a simple, quiet hip sash, and a comfortable top. A notebook is recommended.

Vary your dance style to suit different venues and audiences. Learn three power combos for cabaret, tribal fusion and ATS-style belly dance.

Belly dance is an art from that thrives in many types of venue: a solo at a restaurant, a club show with live musicians, a troupe performances in a large outdoor concert stadiums seating 15,000 screaming fans, Uncle Elmer’s 50th birthday celebration, and a choreographer’s showcase at a prestigious theaters.

Renown for her versatility as a performer and instructor, Kaeshi draws upon her extensive experience performing internationally in every type of venue to show you how to effectively reach your audience. With tips and combos to modify your dance style, you can adapt your choreography to suit each unique situation. By the end of this workshop, you will have greater confidence with how to tackle a variety of performance opportunities.

Kaeshi will also teach the drills that all Bellyqueen company members do at the start of each rehearsal. These drills increase the dancer’s strength, flexibility and finesse on stage.

More Power To Ya with Sharon

This workshop is designed to assist and inspire belly dancers of all styles to take the leap into the next stage in their dancing. Using technique drills and focused training, dancers are asked to push themselves physically, as well as mentally through visualization. Special focus is placed on shimmies, lines, and extension.

Tribal Fusion with Elizabeth

Stretch it, strengthen it, control it! The beauty of tribal fusion involves fine control and a stylized approach to movement. Isolating different parts of the body, or layering, will be a focus, as well as control of slow movements. All will be practiced in fun combinations.

This workshop is intended for intermediate to professional level dancers, and will focus on skills to help you shine on stage. Kaeshi will share techniques to add energy and interest to your dance through musicality, improvisation, changing focus and dancing inside AND outside the box! Showcase a dance piece and get effective and useful group feedback that will help you progress to the next level.

Infinite Innerspace: Butoh for Belly Dance with Sharon

Extracting Inspiration From All Places. Inspired by Butoh (Japanese for “dance”), Sharon is very excited to bring you this new workshop. Using story and character building techniques, as well as breathing and visualization, you will dive in to your creative bodies to access the unusual. The focus in this class is to learn to become a channel. This can help alleviate stage fright, creative blocks, and fear related to dance.
