Developing Choreography: Performing a Solo (4-week Series-75 minutes)

Hone the essentials for creating a belly dance solo or small group choreography with Jennifer!

Do you have a bit of inspiration, a fragment of a dance that you’d like to develop and bring to the stage? You can start with even the smallest hint of inspiration – a costume, a prop, a favorite song – or just the desire to explore the creative process of developing a choreography! Delve into your creativity to discover and practice your own style of movement.  Receive teacher and classmate feedback to guide your choreographic process through revision to a polished finished or work in progress piece.

We’ll explore song selection, musical interpretation, transitions, diagramming music, costuming and other keys to creating a dance that dynamically reflects and highlights the music. Create a new piece or revise and update a previously performed solo work. Join us for a fun and a playful project to get in touch with your dancing at home muse, express your inner artist and deepen your creativity in dance!

Each dancer will receive individual feedback outside of class on video submissions sent to the teacher and will prepare and share their final pre-recorded pieces in the Sahara Dance Holiday Hafla on Friday, December 18 at 7:30 pm. Traditional, theatrical, and experimental belly dance pieces are welcome! Students provide their own costuming with teacher guidance.

Miss a class? No problem! Make up class in one of our other classes within the same 5-week session. You are welcome to do make ups anytime within the same 5-week session, in advance of, or after, a missed class.

Classes are offered through Zoom. We will email registered participants prior to the start of class with instructions on how to log in. Registration will remain open up until 30 minutes prior to the class start time, or as spaces remain available. All class times are Eastern Standard Time zone. PLEASE NOTE: registration confirmation and Zoom link will be sent approximately one hour prior to class.

For the live-streaming class series we ask all participants to turn on their videos to help create community and best pace the class. If you have technical constraints or prefer to participate without video, just let the teacher know. We want everyone to have a supportive and uplifting class experience.

The 5-week class series is offered on a sliding scale, with a minimum registration of $100 and a suggested registration of $100 – $150. For those who are able, we appreciate your generous contributions to keep our classes available. Your support helps ensure the continuity of our community dancing together. We are grateful for your generosity and care for our community. Thank you.

As a reminder: all are welcome and included! If the sliding scale is cost-prohibitive, please don’t let this keep you from dancing with us. Just email support@saharadance.com and we will help. We all benefit from dancing together at this time.
