Meet Mercedes Nieto: Three Days of Technique, Creativity & Tarab

Mercedes Nieto Comes to Sahara Dance, April 2-4

We’re excited to welcome Mercedes Nieto to Sahara Dance this spring for a three-day intensive for Intermediate and Advanced dancers.

Each day has a different focus, with time for technique, creative work, and musical interpretation.

Friday, April 2: Raqs & Flow | 6:00-9:00 PM

We’ll start the weekend with Raqs & Flow, focused on training, technique, drills, and presence.

Mercedes will also introduce dancers to some of the methods and ideas that shape her own approach to movement.

Saturday, April 3: The Combination Lab | 1:30-4:30 PM

Saturday moves into the creative side of dancing.

In The Combination Lab, Mercedes will work with different techniques and styles of music while exploring how movement develops from an idea into something you can bring to the stage. It’s a chance to think more intentionally about how combinations are built and how we make choices as dancers.

Sunday, April 4: In the Mood for Tarab | 1:00-5:00 PM

On Sunday, the focus turns to classical Egyptian music.

In the Mood for Tarab will explore the interpretation of a classical Egyptian song through choreography, musicality, lyrics, song mapping, and expression. Dancers will have time to listen closely to the music and work with how its structure and feeling can shape the dance.

Join Us for the Weekend

The three workshops are designed to complement one another, but each has its own focus. Come for the full intensive or choose the workshop that speaks most to what you want to work on right now.
