Jennifer Anya

SAHARA DANCE RESIDENT TEACHER

Jennifer Anya has been training in Middle Eastern dance for 12 years including traditional Egyptian, folkloric, and fusion-style belly dance. Before finding belly dance, she was a competitive figure skater and ice dancer. She regularly performs at events across the DC area including Fiesta Asia, the Travel Expo, and at the World Bank. She has completed two of the four levels of Sahra Saeeda’s Journey Through Egypt program.

Jennifer is a current member of Raqs Caravan East and performs regularly with Raqqesat Latin, Raqqesat Props and the Reda Performance group. She has trained extensively with Rachel Kay Brookmire, Rhonda Perkins, Julie Athie, Shahrazd, Chudney, and Chiaki Yamamoto.

Jennifer Anya loves both traditional and fusion belly dance and is also a veteran of masters workshops with Jillina, Victoria Teel, Bozenka, Mohammad Shahin, Rachel Brice, and Yasmina Ramsey, among others. For her, dance is not only about freedom and creative expression, but also about the connections and community that she’s made studying the art form.
