Katy

SAHARA DANCE RESIDENT TEACHER

Katy was searching for a boxing class while living in France when she found — and very quickly fell in love with — belly dance. Over 12 years later, she continues to be drawn to the movement, music, welcoming community, and deep spiritual connection associated with this dance.

Katy has been an active Sahara Dance community member since 2012, when she moved to the DMV area. She has performed regularly with a variety of troupes, locally and internationally, and is currently a member of Raqs Caravan East. She focuses primarily on Egyptian raqs sharqi, fusion, and folkloric dances.

Katy completed all four levels of Sahra Saeeda’s Journey Through Egypt program, visiting Egypt in 2018. In 2019, she completed the Sahara Dance Foundations Teacher Training. In addition to her Sahara Dance training, Katy has also studied and taken workshops with top performers and master teachers including Assala Ibrahim, Donna Mejia, Ebony Qualls, Jillina, Karim Nagi, Nada El Masriya, Mohamed Shahin, Rachel Brice, Shahrzad, Wael Mansour, and Yasmina Ramzy.
