Odiney
Odiney has been dancing her entire life, beginning with Latin social dances in her native Costa Rica, along with training in ballet, jazz, and hip hop. She began studying Middle Eastern dance at age 9 under the guidance of her mother and lifelong teacher, Odiney Campos, whose own training traces back to New York pioneers Serena Wilson and Anahid Sofian. There, she performed at many cultural events in major theaters and participated internationally in events such as Intercultural Week at an educational institution in Bern, Switzerland, and the CID Congress in Dance Research in Athens, Greece. She also studied Lebanese Dabke with Aida Chackthoura and took her first workshop in Persian Folkloric and Classical dance with visiting teacher Sharzad Khorsandi.
After moving to the United States, Odiney continued performing at cultural events and expanding her studies. She trained in Egyptian folklore with Karim Nagi, Egyptian raqs sharqi with Maria Jammal in Florida, and Persian dance with Helia Bandeh and Laurel Victoria Gray, while continuing her training at Sahara Dance with Sophianna, Randa, and Leilah Moon. Her repertoire includes Arab, Turkish Romani, Greek Tsifteteli, North African and Persian styles. She currently performs with the Silk Road Dance Company, presenting Persian and Central Asian dances.
She is also an experienced instructor and certified Zumba teacher, Odiney brings an energetic and supportive approach to her classes, emphasizing technique, musicality, cultural context, and joy in movement!
