Musicality is more than simply dancing on the beat—it’s learning how to truly listen to the music and translate what you hear into movement.

In this workshop, we’ll explore how to identify and understand the different layers of Middle Eastern music, from rhythm and melody to individual instruments, musical phrases, transitions, and dynamic changes. You’ll learn practical tools and tips to help you recognize what is happening within the music and make intentional choices in your dancing.

Through guided listening exercises, we’ll train our ears to hear the details that can easily go unnoticed. We’ll then put these concepts into practice through combinations designed to help you apply what you hear directly to your movement.

By the end of the workshop, you’ll have a better understanding of what you’re hearing, how to listen for it, and what you can do with it as a dancer. The goal is to give you practical tools that you can continue using in your dancing, whether you’re improvising, learning choreography, or creating your own.
