In this class you’ll practice the art of belly dance while incorporating the graceful manipulation of fan veils and the rhythmic excitement of sagat (also known as zills or finger cymbals).

The first half of the class we will work on seamlessly integrating fan veils into your dance. You’ll discover how to use the fan veils to accentuate your movements, add drama to your performance, and captivate your audience with their ethereal beauty.

In the second half, you’ll master the basic techniques of playing sagat, learning how to create the sounds and patterns that will enhance your dance with their vibrant sounds. From basic strikes to more complex combinations, you’ll begin to develop the skill and precision needed to synchronize your movements with the music.

Prerequisites: At least one semester of Intermediate 1 (formerly called Low Intermediate) technique, no prior fan veil or finger cymbals experience required.
