Raqs Sharqi Roots – combination lecture and movement

Learn about Egypt’s early 1800’s where Awalem entertainment would be brought into homes for weddings where they would dance, sing and play instruments for gender segregated audiences. Awalem would process the bride and her friends to the bath for their henna night. Understand and try out the dance of these Awalem, then trace the next two changes when they were banished to the countryside, and their re-entry into Cairo preparing for the next era towards the development of Raqs Sharqi.
