Hone the essentials for creating a belly dance solo or small group choreography with Leilah Moon, and practice performing!
Do you have a bit of inspiration, a fragment of a dance that you’d like to develop and bring to the stage? You can start with even the smallest hint of inspiration – a costume, a prop, a favorite song – or just the desire to explore the creative process of developing a choreography solo or with friends! Delve into your creativity to discover and practice your own style of movement. Receive teacher and classmate feedback to guide your choreographic process through revision to a polished finished or work in progress piece. Sahara Dance guest teachers will also be brought in to offer feedback and perspectives on the choreographic process.
We’ll explore song selection, musical interpretation, transitions, mapping music, costuming and other keys to creating a dance that dynamically reflects and highlights the music. Create a new piece or revise and update a previously performed solo work. Join us for a fun and a playful project to get in touch with your muse, express your inner artist and deepen your creativity in dance!
For soloists, we will focus on showcasing emotional expression and sharing the creative spark that makes every dancer unique.
For groups, we will focus on collaboration, interesting blocking, use of space, and proactive communication to weave together a beautiful duet, trio, or small group performance.
Each dancer will receive individual feedback and will prepare and have the opportunity to perform their finished pieces at Sahara Dance Summer Caravan: featuring Marta Korzun on August 23rd at Imagination Stage. Class is limited to eight students so that all dancers receive personalized feedback in an intimate group setting.
Traditional, theatrical, and experimental belly dance pieces are welcome! Students select songs, concepts, and provide their own costuming with teacher guidance.
