Explore the musicality and stylization of Greek Tsifteteli, a genre that originated in Anatolia and shares elements with Turkish, Romani, Armenian, and even Egyptian dance, yet is uniquely distinct in its sound and expression. Each class will include lyrical translations, contextual information, technical breakdowns, and combination drills. Classes will place equal importance on improvisation and emotional expression. While sampling Greek music from as early as the 1900s up to the modern day, students will experience the social form of the dance as well as performative versions fit for the stage.
This class is recommended for Intermediate and above as it will incorporate a variety of fundamental technical skills.
